about

Traditional from Galicia, last stanza and additional music by Jorge Lamata.

The Apalpador is a Christmas mythical character from O Caurel and Os Ancares mountains, in Galicia. At winter solstice, this old bearded man comes down from the mountaintops and touches the belly of the children to know if they ate enough during the year. Then he gives them chestnuts.

lyrics

Vaite logo meu meniño,
marcha agora pra camiña,
que vai vir o Apalpador
a apalparche a barriguiña.

Mañá é día de cachela,
que haberá gran nevarada,
e vai vir o Apalpador
cunha mega de castañas.

Xa ven por aquela cemba,
xa ven relumbrando,
o vello Apalpador
pra darvos xa o aguinaldo.

Non quero santos nin reis
Nin deuses pra adoutrinar,
Xa temos ao Apalpador
E mailo Tizón de Nadal.
